FREDERICK, MD – The Ghost Hounds could not pull off another Saturday night comeback, falling 7-6 to the Rockers on Saturday night.
The Rockers struck first for the second night in a row. In the third inning, Zander Wiel grounded a base hit through the left said to put High Point up 1-0.
With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Jose Marmolejos singled and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After a groundball to short off of the bat of Steven Brault, a throwing error by shortstop Ryan Grotjohn allowed Raudy Read to scamper home and put the Ghost Hounds ahead, 2-1.
Michael Martinez and Shed Long Jr. both singled in runners in the fourth inning, with Long’s knocking in a pair. Brian Parreira added two more in the fifth with a home run. It was the first home run that Zac Rosscup had allowed to a left-handed hitter all season.
The back and forth continued in the bottom of the fifth. After a Raudy Read double, Jimmy Paredes homered to right field, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
Thanks to a Jose Marmolejos homer in the seventh and Leobaldo Cabrera single in the eighth, the Ghost Hounds knotted the game up at six.
The Rockers loaded the bases in the ninth inning after the Ghost Hounds opted to walk Ryan Grotjohn to set up a potential inning ending double play. Dai-Kang Yang hit a soft tapper to the third base side of the mound, and Dovydas Neverauskas could only manage a play at first as the go-ahead run scored.
The Hounds went down in order in the ninth, dropping their fourth straight.
Notes:
- Donald Goodson, Victor Capellan, and Max Povse all had scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
